Ranger EV private pages
Changes are Coming !!!
I believe for now that the newest BMS system that has come about is going to be the one to use on the ranger ev changeovers to LiFepo4 cells ...   There is 2 changeovers I am doing right now .. I just finished one from a NIMH to LiFepo4 100ah cells and am driving it now with the new system ...  the system is still being finished and perfected ...  it will become wireless pretty quick ... I will be removing all the other installs that are posted once I have finished the next one which is a complete changeover from lead acid directly to LiFepo4 with the newest system Battery Management System ...  The builder has already made it a lot easier to install then most of the systems ...  one board for each 4 cell module ...  he has included a temp sensor in every one of the boards (thats amazing in itself) then he incorporated a 8 volt output for the lead acid sense leads so there is no more building a resistor spoof system , its built into this system ... and being there is only one board for every 4 cells you have a lot less work .. just install the board on the negative of the first cell then hook the provided wires to plus of cell 1 , then plus of cell 2, then plus of cell 3 and plus of cell 4 ........   then a easy 2 wire connection from 1 board to the other in series until the end is hooked to a main interface board ...  then he has a great readout already that he is going to make even better .... in the main board he has a relay for charger turn off when any cell in to pack exceeds a adjustable set point .....  also another relay adjustable to a low cut off point ........  also a relay that will run any add on fans you want to use (I will use an original Flow Through NIMH fan since I already am used to using them in the NIMH conversions) ...
All in All I think it is the way to go ..............  Looking forward to posting the next install !!!

WELCOME FELLOW EV DRIVERS !!!!!

Notes for Changeover to Lifepo4 cells or other batteries
Very special Note for anyone that actually plans on updating in the future to the Lifepo4 cells or any other battery of the future as most all of the batteries that will be coming out will need a few things .. one is they will need temperature protection ... this can be done seperately but wow that would be quite a system to have to put together since the NIMH rangers already have the system called a IOM module ....  and all batteries are specifying to have some air blown across them the NIMH ranger ev is the only one that has a flow through fan that comes on when the temp starts increasing ...... So if you plan on always staying with lead acids (hard to believe you will always be happy with a 30 mile range) then you do not need to do anything but if you plan on changing up in the future I am posting this as the parts to do the changeover are almost all gone ...
If you plan on doing this in the future you need to collect the following parts ...................
(1) XL5z-10B691-AB Low voltage wiring assy.
(1) XL5Z-10B715-AA  IOM module assy.
(1) 2U5Z-54280B62-AA  Grille Assy.-V
(1) XL5Z-10B709-AA   Blower Assy.-C
(1) replacement blower for the flow through blower I have the same style blower motor from the original company I am sure there are other companies that have them that will work, I only use the original stuff if at all possible ...

Ford spent a lot of money and time engineering all this and testing it and I am sure there is better ways but since this stuff was already tested I stay with them for now ....
Bad Avcon input connector bypassed and made better
Dont like the on board charger ...
The answer is replace it with a Manzanita ...

Motor go bad ?  yeah I had one too .. replacement time
Problems with your TIM ?
OK, a little early but the replacement of the NGS tester with a On Board System ..

Want to know how to use the NGS tester ?  some of the ways and the tests are here ...

Are you looking at a little pump light on the dash ... that red thing is very scary knowing what they say in the manuals !!  well a ranger ev owner has come up with the answer !! an external high quality Holley pump , and he figured out how to tap it all together ......... Need one , Well here you go !
I have 2 to do myself ....

Protection is a must ....
a Battery Management System
from Thunderstruck Motors
I have posted my notes so far and will add to them as I learn more about the NIMH cables ..
I have already found not all the wiring is in the manual so I made my own from an original cable
pics of the IOM assy. insides .... way beyond my skills ...
This truck is going from a NIMH battery box directly to LiFepo4 100AH cells Interested click on the picture ! ........................
This truck is going to go from lead acid to a Lifepo4 pack  take a look !!
This is a new test I am trying out , an inexpensive new generator has come on line ...
they are inexpensive and they are a true inverter generator so the power is very clean and these will now run for 7 hours on just 2 and 1/2 gallons of fuel .............................. I am combining a small PFC 20 manzanita micro LLC with it to make for quick charging or turn the truck into a Hybrid click on the pic and I will show you what is going on !

I am doing a personal pack of 100AH CALB cells ... these are big ones
the ratings are 113 and 114AH cells so this one will be great
a Lead acid truck will have these in it from start to finish ............
